Metacore, a mobile game company based in both Helsinki and Berlin, is building a portfolio of hit games – starting with their first chart-topping game, Merge Mansion. Applications are now open for their trainee program, offering an aspiring Game Programmer the chance to work on this hit game and the team of experts behind it.

Press Play by Metacore is for emerging talent who are eager to enter the mobile game industry. The program starts in September and offers you a 6 months, full-time, paid trainee position. You’ll work onsite from Metacore’s Helsinki office alongside brilliant and experienced colleagues who are eager to share their knowledge and also learn from your insights.

What you’ll be doing

As a Game Programmer, you get to bring game concepts to life through coding, continuous iterations, and plenty of collaborative work. You will learn the role of a Game Programmer with the guidance of a mentor and get support from your team every step of the way!

In practice, this means (at least) the following:

  • Learning and applying programming best practices and development tools used in game development
  • Assisting in implementing game features, mechanics, and systems according to design specifications
  • Collaborating with designers, artists, and other team members to integrate gameplay elements seamlessly
  • Debugging and troubleshooting code to identify and fix issues
  • Taking part in code reviews and providing constructive feedback
  • Following industry trends and staying updated on the technologies in game development

What we require you to have

In this role you will get an all-round introduction to the Production function, and see the ins and outs of a mobile game business. Here are some of the key skills and experience you should already have when joining Metacore as a Game Programmer:

  • Basic understanding of programming concepts and familiarity with C#
  • Prior experience with Unity, for example, through school or hobby projects
  • Genuine interest in mobile games and a desire to pursue a career in game development
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • A knack for working in a team environment and communicate effectively
  • Eagerness to learn, and adapt to new technologies and methods
  • Proficiency in English skills, as it’s our company language
  • Ability to live and work in the Helsinki region, mainly onsite

This is a full-time, fixed term position of 6 months and you will be employed directly by Metacore. The role is located in Helsinki, Finland,and you must be able to live and work in Finland, mainly onsite from Metacore’s Helsinki office. The start date in the role is 2 September, 2024.
